Have you ever been handed a blank card for a colleague and panic when you don’t know what to write inside? Or worse, everyone else has written ‘Congratulations’ or ‘We will miss you!’ and you feel like you have nothing original to say.
Sometimes, the simplest of messages can overwhelm you. The next thing you know, you’re typing a few words into Google’s search engine, hoping it will generate some inspiration for what you really want to express.
It happens.
It doesn’t have to be this hard.

Picking the right words for the right moment
For high-stakes situations, it can be even more daunting. You just signed a big contract and you want to thank an ally who coached you along the way. Your charity just received a large donation and you want the patron to truly understand the impact of their gift.
The message is percolating within you but you are struggling to get them onto paper or typed into an email. This is especially challenging for people who excel at verbal communication but are daunted by writing. Your gift with the spoken word has taken you pretty far, but a mere phone call to express your gratitude does not feel like enough.
It's okay to ask for help from a professional writer
Having someone who is slightly distanced from the relationship may see or hear something that will resonate with the person you wish to thank.
Every situation is unique. By talking your way through the process and the impact, you will likely say the words you want to capture in writing. Or you may come close but need a little coaching to reach the final stage.
Often, people think jobs like this are too small to bother a professional writer. However, having a variety of jobs – from small to large – allows us to have some variety in our days. Plus, we generally like to help people out when they are in a bind and it will take an hour or less to pull you out.
Of course, then you are in the conundrum of trying to say thank you again…but we get it. Whatever joyful or difficult conversation you have ahead, reach out for help when you need it. Then I can help you find the right words that are within you.
